Referencing "The Way Things Go", the principles of animation, and the videos we view in class, you will make two hand drawn animations as part of a Rube Goldberg device. Each animation should be in black and white, and drawn with pencils. Each animation should be at least 10 seconds long, contain audio, and should be set to 10 frames per second. As a very conservative guesstimate, it takes at least an hour of work(drawing, photographing, audio, compositing) for each second of hand drawn animation. So, plan accordingly. We'll have about 9 hrs of solid studio time in class, but you'll obviously have to put in some time outside of class.
The two animations will be due on different days. The first animation is due at the beginning of class on September 22nd. It MUST be done by this time, but does not have to have the audio yet. You will be passing this animation(and some of the drawings) to your neighbor who will animate the action that follows your animation.
The second animation (and 1st animation WITH sound) will be due by the end of class on October 1st. The second animation will animate an event caused by the animation you get from your neighbor. AND, it will animate the event that caused YOUR first animation. In this way, all of the animations should link together to cause a series of events like what we saw in "The Way Things Go." I will then put all of the animations together into one final animation, and we'll view it on October 6th.
